COMPLICATIONS
Sesho | Pasadena, TX USA | 11/25/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"In the third volume of Angel Tales, things get a lot more complicated than the previous harem comedy that has went on to this point. Goro's life is threatened by 4 mysterious effeminate beast gods who accuse our innocent Goro of stealing their powers. As revenge they want Goro's head on a platter. The Angels just might have to sacrifice their lives to save him. Meanwhile, on the domestic front, Ran becomes more and more jealous and depressed about Mika's overly affectionate rabbit nature.

Angel Tales remains an innocent and sometimes overly syrupy pleasure even with the intrusion of a shonen jump type action sequence at the end of the last episode. The girls in the show are endearing and funny and never become annoying as is the case with some shows like this. The whole revenge of the Beast Gods is a little goofy to me, but hey, this is a show about animal pets being reincarnated as guardian angels, so you can't let reality intrude all that much.

The dvd also has a series of shorts called Venomous Tails, which feature super-deformed versions of the characters in short skits, and what appear to be ads for a Playstation game based on the anime. It also has a little info about the Angel ranks on one of the menus and the usual artwork gallery."
