Rather Poor Picture with Barely Acceptable Sound
BLee | HK | 03/30/2005
(3 out of 5 stars)

"
Has Tureck been touring extensively enough giving recitals?

Well, at least we have two such recitals here. Apart from the fact that her repertoire is rather small, there is the question of her manners on the stage considering the way she stopped short the audience from applauding. Even the way she sat in front of the piano rather reminds us so much of Bolet who played with his head completely dropped and motionless all the way through devoid of any visual charm.

Having said that, Tureck was an inspiration to Glenn Gould for his interpretation of Bach. Moreover, Tureck's playing
could also provides a perfect model for all piano exams, or even some piano contests. The quality of the picture is however below average and the sound is barely acceptable only. Note that her playing relies very much upon her forearms.

However, the running time of this DVD is rather long, giving us sufficient time to have a full view of this great American scholar pianist.
