Blue Velvet is like a trial run at Twin Peaks. Both share a lot of common conceptual territory, and a lot of the same actors as well. Lynch has a way of taking his films to the ugliest places in the human condition, and then managing to pull them back out far enough to keep faith in the good of humanity. Not a film where one feels great after seeing, but certainly discussion provoking and memorable. Dennis Hopper is well-cast as a disgusting creep.
