Good Mexican Classic -- Simple Restorations Needed
Tunco Malclovio | Walla Walla, WA, USA | 10/02/2007
(3 out of 5 stars)

"For those who appreciate older, classic Mexican movies with Antonio Aguilar, this should do. While the horse is impressive enough, he is no equal to the horses in many other Aguilar films as regards beauty and training -- no fancy footwork feagtured nor flowing manes, overall. You must accept the canned horse whinnies that go with these productions even though they badly break the spell for modern viewers. The English subtitles are white and often illegible against the background. Anyway, they are barely adequate. Aguilar's character at one point says he's not "carne de cañon" (not "cannon meat," or "cannon foder," as one whould say in English. The subtitle says "I am not a led soldier." About two-thirds of the way through the movie the print they're coping gets stuck no less than three or four times between frames, with the dark border appearing mid-screen, which seems unforgiveable now with what should be a simple repair to the physican film. Having listed the negatives, this is a good, but not great, Mexican classic."
