Buy these Beethoven piano trios
MJK | Arlington MA | 11/29/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Those of you who have already seen the EMI Classics DVD of the Brahms piano trios as performed by Stern, Rose, and Istomin, will not need any extra encouragement to purchase the Beethoven piano trios performed by these same musicians. The only negative is that two of the seven trios have been filmed in black and white, and the distance shots in b&w are not well focused. But I could not detect any sound problems with the two b&w trios. The other five trios, which have been filmed in sharp color, are perfect. Of course the playing is wonderful (as a cellist, I will confess to a special liking for the playing of Leonard Rose). So there is no excuse for not purchasing this 2-DVD set of the Beethoven piano trios (although I will admit to a slight preference for the Brahms trios)."
