Movie Reviews

Delivers The Goods....
Anthony Manwell | 04/30/2005

"I can remember sitting at home one night and being bored to tears, it was just one of those nights. Then I looked in the tv guide and saw a listing of an interesting movie title: Death by Pizza(thats Delivered's alternate TV title). What I saw when I flipped to that channel was one of the freshest, most fun films i had seen in a very long time. It is amazing to me how a gem of a film like this can just slip under the radar so easily. I am going to start this review by saying that this is one of those truly rare and unknown films that i can recomend to everyone. It is suprisingly that good, and it amazes me how Delivered actually gets a little bit better every time I see it.

The story is about Will Sherman, an underground comic book artist struggling to get his work published. He carries around a tape recorder to record his thoughts and unleash his inner anger. By day he works as a pizza delivery boy, a job he is more and more fed up with day after day. One night he happens to make a delivery at the wrong time, when he unknowingly delivers a pizza to a killer whos victim is hanging in the living room. The killer knows that Will is now technicly a witness and begins stalking will. Well pretty soon the killer gets a hold of Will's tape recorder and begins killing the people in Will's life that he had spoken about on the recorder. Suddenly Will is the prime suspect in a series of murders that he knows nothing about.

At its core Delivered is a very funny dark comedy and most of the jokes hit home. But what really elevates this film above the rest is its suprisngly beautiful comic book atmosphere. For a film with a budget of only $1.5 million it looks great, you would never be able to tell that its not $15 million from the look of it. The acting is very good from the entire cast and the direction is even better. This film was never meant to win any awards and it is a B movie a heart. But at just 90 minutes long it is one of the most fun and entertaining films that I have seen in a very long time. Its an intelligent black comedy with almost "Creepshow" esque atmosphere and great acting. I relly cant recomend it enough. Buy it now, you wont regret it."
A hidden gem!!!

"I loved this comedy horror flick!!! It is a very "different look" along with a humorous plot. The acting was good and the story stood up well from start to finish. Don't miss this one!!! I am certainly glad that I didn't. I highly recommend this movie to anyone that loves horror flicks with a humorous twist."
Fun Little Indie Thriller/Black Comedy

"Fun little indie thriller/black comedy about Will, a depressed, underground comic book writer (the late David Strickland) who works as a pizza delivery boy. His tape recorder - filled with the possible demises of his characters - lands in the hands of a charming serial killer (the consistently excellent Ron Eldard) - and the ensuing murders look to be remarkably similar to those "fantasized" about on tape by Will.

Most cinematic killers are portrayed as outcasts, loners, confused so its refreshing to see Eldard attack his role with a vigor and joy in menacing terror not unlike (though much more toned tone) Jim Carrey's Cable Guy.

While decidedly having a B movie feel about it Delivered's cast delivers the goods, and seem to believe in their characters and make it work. I've seen pictures with far, far bigger budgets not provide half the entertainment Delivered does. Cheap and Fun.
