diminished capacity: a very pleasant low key comedy drama exploring the early stages of alzheimer's as well as the short term memory loss associated with traumatic brain injuries. i highly recommend it in part because it's not afraid to laugh at a very serious illness or some aspects of it and yet maintains dignity and respect for those suffering from this disease. virginia madsen, allan alda and matthew broderick are all wonderful here and make this one a pleasure to just sit back and watch. virginia madsen always seems to be able to blend incredible natural sex appeal and genuine feminine warmth like no other actress out there. the storyline revolves around alda's character feeling forced to make a road trip to a baseball card convention in chicago to sell his grandfather's rare cub's baseball card in order to continue to live at home and not be forced into a facility, side story involves broderick's short term memory issues from a traumatic brain injury and the budding love affair between he and virginia madsen. tender, warm, touching film. and a fun one for baseball memorabilia enthusiasts as well. :) bossajake
