Movie Reviews

My friend has this
A. Basada | 12/04/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ok first off I have to throw this down. People giving this DVD low marks because it was too advanced for them, that's not right.

That's like a diabetic reviewing on how Ben n Jerry's ice cream tastes like crap, because they can't have it.

SHame on you! You don't give bad marks because of your lack of research when buying a product, even then when its a good one you give it low ranking implying the quality sucks. Grading on usefulness of instruction is important, but its relative:

Going into calculus and saying its useless and hard to learn, the instructor isn't a good teacher . . . when you're barely learning algebra isn't accurate. It is useful and has its place, its just you're not ready for it yet.

Reviews are supposed to give a quick summary on the product quality, accuracy of information, presentation.

Take some darn responsibility and get over buyers remorse. You can use the DVD when you get good enough. Ugh!

Anyway into the meat:

I'm more into classical guitar, so the repetoire found in that style is enough to teach fingerstyle for years. I would have never came across this . . .

However, my friend, she is more into blue grass, and got this DVD. Over 4 months of pwning (yes its pwn) it and working through it I can see it really improved on her playing.

So much, I borrowed it, and checked the lessons myself. It is heavy. Previous posters saying this stuff will take months or years are NOT kidding. Maybe if you've got time and are a fanatic you might go through in few months.

Yes it is not for a complete beginner . . . but beginners bordering on intermediate can rock it.

I was surprised at the depth, yeah I know snotty classical guitar players LOL. But as I gave it back to her, I put this DVD on my to get list.

As someone else stated, it should have had alot more slow running lessons. I'm lucky in that I can take some stuff (usually in my virtuouso dvd's) to my friends / teachers . . . and they can break it down.

Then again this is the computer age and they probably have a PC dvd player that plays at slow speed, so its probably not an issue."
A Greg Douglass fan

"As a fans of Greg's guitar work over the years I was prompted to buy this DVD along with his Lead Guitar instructional DVD. I loved them both because I may not reach his level of expertise on the guitar but he at least gets you going in the right direction regardless of what your musical taste may be. The reference files online helped me out also. I was also prompted to post a review because I noticed an earlier review that said there was "no video" ... DVD's usually work better with the TV on"
Intermediate to Advanced Fingerstyle

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Lots of information and examples of various fingerstyle picking with eight example songs. Beginner - Intermediate players may be frustrated. Could use some more beginner material. Even though some "slow motion" video is used, this could have been a very valuable technique throughout the lessons. The tabs on the screen are OK. The availability of the tabs on-line is also a plus, however those who don't read tabs will have a more difficult time. I consider myself an intermediate player, but this will take me a while (years) to get through with the time I have available. However even after just sitting through all the lessons without playing, I have picked up some tips and incorporated them into my playing. I think these lessons will be valuable as I have time to get through them over the years. This program seems to be well worth the money. I'm glad I purchased the program"
Excellent For Those Who Want To Learn to Really Play Somethi
Steve Garrett | Florida | 12/15/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I had been playing for perhaps 3 years when I purchased this. I was looking to get out of the rut of playing scales and practicing phrasing, wanting finally to learn something that could be played in front of folks. You may not think you are a fingerstyle player, but this DVD will teach you how to play impressive sounding songs with ease. They are not hard, taking me about 4-6 hours of practice to memorize each one. You will end up with a great foundation that can be built on. Highly recommended for those that want to see what blues/folk fingerstyle is all about."
