This British film stars Michael Caine as Harry Brown, a senior citizen who has just lost his wife. He has a friend, "Len" that he plays chess with at the local pub. Len opens his eyes to the drug, gun, & sex trade taking place in their community in front of their eyes by the local gang of young "holigans". Len says that they have been threatening him and pouring things in through his mail slot. He asks Harry for help. Harry used to be a Marine, but has never talked about it. Harry tells Len to go to the police. Len says it didn't do any good. Len ends up murdered by the gang. When the police tell Harry that the gang may get off, he takes things into his own hands.

This movie started out slow, but once it took off I thought it was well done. The characters were very believable. Harry was a reluctant hero. He also was extremely limited physically. Only his planning allowed him to win out over his enemy. This is definitely not a Charles Bronson film. Michael Caine always gives a superb performance. The movie was thoughtfully done, but is not an action film from beginning to end. I would recomment this film, but know that it is a bit slower paced.
