"It's a love story, it's a ghost story, it's a mystery. But it's not your average love/ghost/mystery story by any means. May I also add that it is kinky? Did I see the Hallmark brand name at the beginning of this movie? I was a bit taken aback at the nudity and...kinkiness. It's almost like James Herbert wanted to write a kinky story but hid it underneath the premise of a "ghost" story. But anyway, I had this story figured out well before the ending, but the gorgeous scenery and atmosphere kept me interested nonetheless. Anthony Andrews, who is always good at playing the spoiled rich English aristocrat with a family secret, was very good, as was Kate Beckinsale. Anna Massey seemed to be acting in another movie, she was rather annoying. And Aidan Quinn was sufficient, but kind of wooden I thought. The story itself was a little confusing, involving the ghost of David's drowned little sister, among others. It wasn't the best ghost story I've ever seen, but the scenery and the beautiful old house made up for whatever else was a bit lackluster about this film. If you are in the mood for a gothic, moody, kinky ghost story, then this is the movie for you.

You get a wonderful glimpse at a young Ms. Kate Beckinsale!!

"This movie is set in the early 1900s making it feel old from the very beginning. It has a slow start, but it quickly picks up. One must keep up with certain happenings of the movie, because the movie will all come together at the end. Kate Beckinsale is nude throughout the movie, but nothing too graphic or vulgar in anyway. I think an underlying theme to this movie is water and fire. If you notice, there is a great deal of water and fire going on. People in water and houses on fire. One last thing to note, this movie is not for everybody. Some people may be quite disturbed or offended by the outcome of the movie. Enjoy it!"
