I enjoyed the movie enough, certainly didn't turn it off, but I think it's overrated. Nothing new or special, and it's definitely a one-time viewing. The so-called "twist" ending has been done several times before, and the gore fx that are getting so much praise were not anything remotely special. The decapitation of the father was the worst effect of this kind that I've seen in years. Some of the blood squirting was as bad as Tom Savini's weakest efforts in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. The killer's psycho truck felt like a ripoff of Jeepers Creepers. Ultimately, I think the simplicity of the film doesn't really warrant any attempt at a surprise ending. We didn't learn much of anything about the characters to really care about such a twist, and I think it probably would have been better overall had they just stuck with the story as it was going and drop the unnecessary attempt at throwing the viewer a curve ball. That truly would have been more interesting and brutal. 2.5/5 Stars

High Tension is a hardcore slasher film from France...and it delivers a punch! Two young women are vistiing with one girl's family in the countryside. What they don't know is a serial killer has been watching the house...and he unleashes terror with a home invasion in the middle of the night. After a gruesome murder spree, he takes one of the girls as his prisoner. The other, after evading murder and capture, sets out to free her friend and stop the maniac. But can she do it without being killed herself. What sets this apart from your average slasher film is the fact that the characters are smart. This isn't one of those films where the victims walk bissfully to their deaths. The characters struggle and fight for their lives...intelligently. There is one downside to this movie, which is the only reason I can't give it five stars...it has a "twist" ending that spoils the rest of the film...at least for me. Watch it and be your own judge, though. It's a really good horror film.
