Movie Reviews

Bravo Jacques Brel
East Villager | NY, NY | 02/02/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you're curious about Jacques Brel and what the excitement was all about, this video of one of his final concerts is a must. Belgian born Brel, whose life was tragically shortened by cancer, was one of the most intensely engaged singer/songwriters of the 20th century. Some of his works/performances, J'attends Madeleine, for example, transcend category and belong in a highlight reel of best performances of all time. I speak French, but even if you don't, his charisma comes through. This DVD is magic."

"Magic.Unforgettable.Passion!!I do not speak French yet this DVD is spellbinding. It has no English subtitles.
It is easy to find the translations for Brel's songs on line and that helps, otherwise get "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris."Most of the songs are in it.
Some of the songs are so powerful.they should be seen just one or two at a time.
"Amsterdam" is my favourite. If you want a Brel experience, get it."
