Excellent concert, almost perfect DVD/CD edition
Marcelo A. Soto Quiroga | Maracay, Venezuela | 09/03/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I'm not a fan of LODVG, and just bought this edition for a gift. The very first good surprise is that this is a bundle that contains a CD with the concert audio tracks in the exact sequence as the DVD. The DVD itself has loads of extras in the form of photos, discography, video-clips and interviews with band members. The only drawbacks to mention could be a fair video quality noticeable during some passages, perhaps some abuse of camera/lighting effects and the interactive menus which are somewhat ugly. But besides that, this is an almost perfect bundle LODVG fans will certainly enjoy."
LODVG - in concert

"As a major fan of LODVG, living far from Spain and their concerts, I was really excited when I noticed on their Website that there was a DVD containing video of their 2003 concert tour. It was a while before I was able to find it for sale, however. I happened onto it in an Oklahoma City bookstore (before I found it here at Amazon - sorry about that, Amazon!).As for the DVD, it turned out to be a DVD and a CD. The CD contains the audio-only portion of the concert that is presented on the DVD. I guess the idea is that you can take the CD and play it in a car or personal stereo or something. The audio quality is quite good, and the live performance is a nice alternative to the already-good studio recordings. The video quality is okay, with the occasional pixelization of the scene during fast pans and scene changes.Contents of the DVD include the 70-minute concert itself (no idea where it was), presented as a single entity (but in selectable chapters, of course) and with various camera angles (if you're into that sort of thing). The songs in the concert are: Intro, Puedes Contar Conmigo, Deseos de Cosas Imposibles, Un Mundo Mejor, Cuéntame al Oído, Soledad, Vestido Azul, La Esperanza Debida, Geografía, El 28, Adiós, Pop, Cuídate, Rosas, París, La Playa, 20 de Enero, and Bonustrack. There are also video clips. Like their previous DVD ("La Oreja de Van Gogh"), there are videos of: Cuídate, París, La Playa, Pop, and Mariposa. Video quality of these clips is a little better on the older DVD. One or two of the videos on this DVD are clipped a bit early at the end, too, losing a couple of seconds of the videos. The newer videos, for Puedes Contar Conmigo, 20 de Enero, and Rosas, appear on this DVD. The video quality isn't much better than the presentations on LODVG's Website, though, but you don't have to worry about "buffering" problems on the DVD!There are also interviews, documentary-type stuff, photos, - and subtitles in English and French (although I haven't tried them yet). One odd thing is that the DVD and CD come in a double-CD-style case.I almost gave this 4 stars, due to the mediocre video quality and a couple of annoyances in the usability of the DVD, but went with 5 because the disc set makes up for it in what matters - content and audio quality.I wish I could do this review in Spanish, but I would wreck the grammar. Suffice it to say, "compra los discos - ¡la música es mejor que nunca!""
Audiophile review of the *CD* portion of this package

"Okay, so I'm a self-confessed audiophile reviewing a live Spanish pop album. This is the first album I've encountered that is off-the-beaten audiophile path that I thought is worth telling others about... and yes, I do dig LODVG and latin pop! :-)

Out of all my live pop/rock concert recordings, this is the only recording which actually serves to capture the *FEEL* and *ENERGY* of being there in concert among thousands of fans. Sr. Vinader & Co effectively mixed in the throngs of fans singing along in concert with the close-mic'd clarity of a studio session. The chorus of the audience singing along is never a distraction, rather it boosts the energy and excitement of the mix, especially in the moments where Amaia drops out to let the audience carry a verse or chorus forward. The instruments are pristinely recorded and occupy their own space in the mix, rather than being combined together in an indistinguishable blob as with other live albums.

The track "Soledad" especially stands out with the electric piano/organ/synth (in the intro) and rhythm guitar driving a toe-tapping groove over the intro and choruses. The audience seems to know just the thing to do with fills during the choruses. Fun!

It's not an entirely "pure" recording by audiophile standards, but it's a recording and mix that does what recordings should do, which is to present music in such a way to engage and excite the listener. I'm actually digging this album more than the studio recording of "Lo que te conte mientras te hacias la dormida".

Oh, and yes, the music is plenty fun and catchy with all the right pop hooks... just as it should be. This is worth getting for the CD only... the DVD is just a BIG bonus!"
Excellent Buy

"If you are a fan of this group you will absolutely love this CD/DVD combo. It is their entire concert on both a cd and a dvd. You can hear all of their greatest hits from the first 3 albums all together in one package. The voice is absolutely clear and sounds like it was recorded in the studio even though she is singing live. And the DVD is great with lots of bonus footage like making of the album and the concepts behind it. Also it has some videos which are available on their other dvd and others that are not like "Puedes Contar Con Migo", "20 De Enero" and "Rosas" Get this NOW....."
