While Edge of Tomorrow traverses territory already covered in Groundhog Day, it offers some fantastic special effects and blends in a convincing explanation for the time shifting that occurs. The powered armor and drop ships are reminiscent of Heinlein's Starship Troopers - the novel, not the movies. Actually, I wish this movie's special effects and weapons could have been used in the Starship Trooper movies. Live, Die, Repeat is a cinematic culmination of many sci fi sources (books, games, artwork) over the years regarding futuristic combat, and it delivers quite well.
