Movie Reviews

A Spanish Farce

""My Dad is What?" ("Lokas")

A Spanish Farce

Amos Lassen

I honestly do not know what some people think about when they decide to make a film but it seems to me that a little thought is necessary. I love comedy as much as the next guy but farce is hard to do. "Lokas" is a film about Charly, a Latino homophobic male who finds out that his father is gay but the problem I am having is how could he not have known---his father is extremely effeminate and gives away a thousand hints. However it is not Charly who is the main character but Pedro, his nine year old son who manages to bring the family back together. I found almost everything here to be mediocre at best although there are a few laughs. The film would have been much more successful if the father had not been so obvious.
