Movie Reviews

Run of the Mill

"In Love With Life is a 1930s programmer film with a predictable plot and forgotten cast. Sharon (Lila Lee) is a single mother who no longer can support her son (Dickie Moore) properly. She seeks refuge with her estranged father (Claude Gillingwater) who agrees to take the boy but only if she agrees never to see him again. She reluctantly gives him up, but makes arrangement with Laury's tutor (Onslow Stevens) to recieve messages about her son. The stock market crash throws a wrench into the situation when her father loses all he has.

Moore is possibly the best part of the film, aside from the strange rich kid entertainment palace complete with airplane swings and a child version of Betty Boop. The relationships between the characters is shallow so the emotional impact is strictly surface.

Unfortunately, the print is not in the best condition. It is clearer than many prints of this caliber but it is covered in artifacts and the soundtrack leaves a lot to be desired. There are many times when the audio jumps and cuts off a line or even just a few words. Those missing pieces add up and sometimes ruin jokes or heartfelt scenes."
I hope they never remake this one - it cannot be improved up

"''In Love with Life' is an unforgettable old movie and has touched me to the core. The Dickensian overtones are especially appealing. Lila Lee and Dickie Moore are totally convincing in their pathos-filled roles. I hope they never remake this one - it cannot be improved upon....''"
