I never watched this series on television, so I can't comment on how faithful it is to the original. This movie tried too hard to be an "origin story" with obvious designs on spawning sequels. This approach annoys me in films because it forces the writers to "hold back" in order to save the 'good stuff' for later - this is particularly true with romantic tension (e.g. getting interrupted every time they almost kiss, etc.). Action scenes are okay, lots of chases, and Ritchie has some creative camera work and visual effects as usual. Alicia Vikander is a good actress in this one, but her role is contrived. A standard effort that did not leave me desiring a sequel or more exposure to the characters - this might be different for fans of the original series. I suspect they feel more strongly about it, but likewise unsatisfied with the final product.

BTW, this DVD does not appear to include Ultraviolet and is not Blu-ray despite the description, yet the UPCs line up. I played it on a normal DVD player.
