Movie Reviews

A must for all music lovers
Dr. M. Goncalves | Sao Paulo, Brazil | 02/05/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This DVD is a real masterpiece of musical documentaries !
It shows rare and intimate interviews with this unique and reclusive brilliant musician. The musical inserts are as nice to watch as to listen to. The friendship between Freire and Martha Argerich is revealed in all its depth and their playig together is superlatively amusing. Parts of his biographical notes are so nice, especially the letter his father wrote to him when he still was a young boy. The film is very moving in many parts and it openly and colourfully depicts the musician and the man Nelson Freire is. "The best amongst the best pianists" as put by the world's music critics. Pure enjoyment !"
Bravo!

"I love this man's playing! The interviews are wonderfully relaxed and Freire is very open and expressive.
The way the movie is inter woven between performances is beautiful. Wonderful moments showing the angst and anxiety an artist experiences behind the wings and in the Green Room prior to the moment he walks on stage and sits at the piano. The parts with Martha Argerich are priceless. A DVD worth watching time and time again. Enjoy!"
