This movie surprised me in four ways:
1 - I didn't realize there would be so much nudity/sex.
2 - Mark Ruffalo surprised me with his role as a gay.
3 - Julia Roberts was almost unrecognizable...rather plain, no glamour at all.
4 - I didn't understand why they chose this title.

This was a very POWERFUL, heartbreaking movie. Having lived through this era of uncertainty and death, I was glad I was married and not a gay man. This was a time when it wasn't cool to be gay.

Synopsis: The Normal Heart tells the story of the onset of the HIV-AIDs crisis in New York City in the early 1980s. Based on Larry Kramer's Tony Award-winning play of the same name, it takes an unflinching look at the nation's sexual politics as gay activists and their allies in the medical community fight to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city and nation in denial.
