Movie Reviews

Fun, relaxing and a conversation piece

"I have had the tape for a number of years, and recently got the DVD -- my VCR is headed for the trashheap, . . . technology marches on, I guess. Its hard to say what makes for a good videofireplace, but I have seen a competitor, and this one is definitely better. The fire burns under the steady eye of the camera through all the stages of a "real" fire -- of course, it was a "real" fire, what's "real" can get so confusing. The DVD quality is good, and it will restart itself, playing over and over, which is good when you just want to leave it on. I play it with the crackling fireplace sounds, pretending that it really has turned my TV into a fireplace. Guests always comment on the "joke," which is fun, but it can really be a pleasant "background" when I just want to sit and read quietly. I actually use it a lot. There's also an aquarium on this DVD, which is kind of a fun bonus. My gypsy in-laws just left on their annual migration in their Airstream -- we gave them a "fireplace" to take with them -- a DVD player/TV with this DVD. It was a brilliant gift."

"I bought the DVD and feel cheated. The fire scenario is pleasant enought, but evidently the DVD was made from the VHS tape version since the resolution is far below DVD quality. All the videos are fuzzy; even worse than the VHS format since they were made from that generation copy. Why couldn't they have done this DVD right and used a high-quality digital source instead of re-copying their old tape? Could it have cost significantly more? No. It only takes a simple digital camcorder."
These reviews are clearly fake.

"Look at the way the previous reviews are written. I bought this fireplace dvd, and it's kind of neat, but it doesn't inspire the kind of long-winded reflection that these other "reviewers" have posted. This isn't a bad time, but don't be fooled; this is not a "Hot DVD.""
This is the worst

"They basically took the old VHS and dumped it on DVD. This product is weak."
