Keeps Getting Better and Better
E. Jones | 04/30/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Looking at the sales ranks for the Princess Tutu DVD, I was rather confused. The first two disks tend to hang around the 12,000th mark, whereas the last four appear somewhere near #24,000. My only hypothesis is that people are willing to try for two volumes, but give up on it after that point.

Anyone who has or is considering taking that action is missing out on a fantastic show. Episode nine is when Princess Tutu takes off. The third volume is when it truly begins to shift into the great, underappreciated masterpiece that it is. This DVD sees the tone shift even more to the dark side, while Princess Tutu and Kraehe continue their battle for the prince's heart. An unlikely alliance is formed between two characters, and Fakir is finally allowed to gain the depth that turns him into a fantastic character. Another character makes a decision that changes them from a simple puppet into a force that throws the whole story Drosselmeyer has planned into disarray. The often-repeated sentiment that accepting your fate brings you happiness and defying it brings you glory begins to be brought into play. I'll leave aside the specifics of the plot points for now; suffice to say that the end of this volume will leave you wanting more.

The visuals continue in the way they already have; characters are stylized, but effectively fit into the fairy tale world in which they have been placed. The music also keeps adding an extra depth to this anime, which anyone who enjoys classical music will appreciate. If you found yourself growing slightly bored at the end of the second volume, give this anime just one more chance. Because believe me--it only gets better from here on out."
Wonderful story!!

"By far one of my most favorite series. I feel as if I'm going to die if I don't get the rest of the dvd's! And yes the last episode was absolutely poetic and heart wrenching."
A beautiful anime for eyes and ears

"This anime is emotional and funny. The ballet in it is beautiful and the music sets the scenes perfectly. As a matter of fact, the music is so good that i have every piece on my ipod. I recommend this for everyone especially if you enjoy ballet and/or classical music. The story line is very captivating and enchanting and it is best that you start from the first DVD. There are six DVDs in total, but if you cant get all six, vol. 3 is a good place to stop.
Dispite how the title sounds, this is not an anime for only children. It captivated my entire family including my 60 year old father, my 40 year old mother, my 14 year old friend and my 17 year old cousin and also my 30 year old ballet teacher."
