Sam Bush rocks!

"Sam Bush is the best musician on the planet. He plays the mandolin, guitar and fiddle with total joy on this DVD. Joy is what Sam Bush is all about, and he not only plays his instruments and sings with virtuosity, he spreads that joy to everyone who sees him live. This is the best DVD of the year!

Hero of my hero

"I was listening to the "extras" section of this DVD. Sam goes off on a tangent talking about his heroes - Jean Luc Ponte, John McLaughlin, Jan Hammer, Jerry Goodman, John Hartford, Bela Fleck. And I realized why I was drawn to Sam. These are some of my favorite musicians and writers. Sam ranks among the top in my book.

I got into Sam through his association with Bela Fleck. I soon started buying all of Sam's CDs. The pinnacle of my fascination with Sam and his band was my very first Telluride festival in 2007. I was absolutely blow away with the talent and showmanship of the entire band.

This DVD was recorded before the Telluride festival but is fairly close to the same band. Even though I have rated this as 5 stars I have to say that it does seem more subdued than the Telluride experience (Sam, you really need to spearhead the effort to get Telluride on DVD!!!). But the performance is flawless and moving. The selection of music is great, flowing from ethereal middle eastern timings and patterns to straight out bluegrass to jazz to blues and rock and roll.

And the extras let you in on the side of Sam Bush that everyone knows about. He's just your average Joe that knows how to play a hell of a mandolin, guitar and fiddle. Sam talks about the songs and his instruments. The explanation for "Laps in Seven" is worth the entire DVD.

"If you've never seen Sam Bush in person, then you need to own this DVD.....classic Sam with all the trimmings!! The band is very good to great, and the song selection is very good.....but come on.....who cares about the song selection or the band....what you come to hear is Sam playing the mandolin and singing, which he does very well here. The guy is simply one of the great American musicians...a musician's musician, if you like. Buy the DVD and let's hope they put out more of them in the near future!"
Good Sammy show overall....

"I purchased my copy here from amazon. I probably would have given the DVD 5 stars if not for it being in 4:3 full screen, come on now, this show was filmed on 8/30/06, it should be 16:9 Anamorphic!!! There's no excuse for that. I also wish there was an uncompressed linear PCM audio track, as there is only Dolby 2.0 and Dolby 5.1 audio options. But having said this, the video quality is great, and the audio quality is good.

The actual performance from the boys is good, can't really go wrong with a Sam Bush show. I will enjoy watching the show for years to come, I only hope Sam releases more videos!!!"
