Movie Reviews

Shower of Silicone

"The set-up here isn't awful: three girls and two guys pay a visit to their long-lost uncle Marty, only to find that he isn't quite the upstanding citizen they expect to meet. [A clue: crucifixes are notable by their absence in the decor of his house] However, the first half-an-hour is among the worst-executed pieces of mid-definition video I've ever seen. Bad dialogue, woefully performed and accompanied by the most embarrassing foley work in cinematic history - check out the burps, farts and noisy chewing of gum, which add absolutely nothing, and aren't the slightest bit funny. In lieu of, oh, storyline, likeable characters or actual horror, we get so much unsexy gratuitous nudity, this feels like a demo reel produced by second-rate breast-enlargement surgeons from Illinois.

When Marty (Shannon) appears, things improve markedly: partly because there is no conceivable way they could get any worse, and partly because he actually delivers lines properly. Of course, it helps that the rest of the cast are largely reduced to running and screaming; anything which prevents them from "acting" can only be welcomed. [The guys are particularly bad: I can only presume the girls said, "We'll only take our tops off if our boyfriends can be in it too" - the 7-11 must have been badly understaffed that day.] At least the rest of the film is merely harmless, and one shot - involving the Mona Lisa, of all things - actually made us laugh, rather than wince or cringe like so much of the opening third. However, even an Oscar-winner would be hard pushed to escape the stench previously generated, and Shower falls some way short of the "unjustly overlooked by the Academy" category."

"Ok... the title definitely got my attention. Do they realize "Shower of Blood" acronym is S.O.B.!!!! That's great. This movie has some unique twists on a tired plot- dumb kids in the woods or abandoned house... duh, don't go in there. But thankfully they do and we got ourselves a movie. The acting isn't too bad for what are clearly up and coming thespians. They were probably cast more on their looks than anything. They are hot, both the guys and girls. For the faint at heart, there is some "R" rated nudity throughout, but it's not too gratuitous. I think it works well with the story line and I think thru lines on most of the characters were well done and carried thru nicely. The on set blood gags and digital visual effects were amazing. I'm really impressed (and rarely am I). On this alone I would recommend the film, but there is more. The camera work and lighting seems to be well thought out and very well done. There are no typical errors or mistakes that you get with most low budget movies. Producers and director seem to have known what they were doing. The score and soundtrack is way cool. Whoever supervised this is in tune with the street. And the composer of the score in a word- Genius.I hope they consider doing a Shower of Blood II with a larger budget, that'd be cool and certainly worth it. To the point, I definitely recommend this movie to all horror buffs, and even those who like comedies, because it is certainly satirical enough that I laughed throughout as I'm certain producers intended. Make a point to see this movie!Curious to know if these filmmakers have any other work out there? Anyone know, please post."
