READ won't reveal to his friends what the present is, maintaining that he wants to keep it a surprise. He then leaves for Mr. Booker's newsstand. At the newsstand, READ wishes Mr. Booker a "happy birthday" and Mr. Booker tries to guess what's in the package. It contains a birthday cake! XTRA, the newspaper, greets READ, and tells him about a new movie called "Bake the Cake". READ rushes to the movie theatre for the next showing. The movie introduces words and rhyming words. Next, READ flies off to the Reading Room and joins a group of children who have gathered to hear some books read: Jake The Snake, The Dragon Spoke and part of Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present. Afterwards, READ heads home. Along the way he encounters signs "in the real world" which he is able to read. We last see READ, in bed thinking about his day and all he has learned. He falls asleep, a happy and better educated young dragon. Combining animation, puppetry, storytelling, songs and adventures, these programs captivate young viewers and encourage the love of reading. Bake the Cake features the letter "K" and includes the theme of "birthdays". Kids will learn to recognize the letters "B", "C", "R", "L", "H", "SM", "SP" and "CH"; and the sounds associated with them, as well as identify and use the "ake" and "ike" "oke" sound-spelling patterns, use these patterns to unlock words and participate in written language; and appreciate that there are many words made up of these patterns, i.e., "bike", "joke", "bake", "snake", and more!
