"This is not really a review as I have been unable to watch the DVD yet. This is just to point out that although the product description says 'all regions' it is made in Germany and does not play on my Canadian DVD player. I'm lucky enough to have some access to a 'all region' player and will be able to watch it on that, but am very disappointed that I was mis-lead."

"NOTE: THIS IS A REGION 2 DVD, AND IT WILL NOT PLAY ON REGION 1 (U.S.A.& CANADA) DVD PLAYERS. YOU'LL NEED A UNIVERSAL DVD PLAYER. IT'S EASY TO GET ONE, AND IT'S CHEAP. I ORDERED ONE THROUGH AMAZON, AND I AM VERY PLEASED WITH IT, SO I CAN WATCH DVD'S LIKE THIS ONE, THAT I COULDN'T WATCH OTHERWISE.

Now the review of this dvd:

This is a group of Southern Rock Musicians, who have toured, recorded and performed together for about 20 years, in bands such as Radio Toyko, Dixie Allstars, Blackfoot & Molly Hatchet. In 1997 they officially started this band, the Southern Rock Allstars (SRA). Their 1st album was entitled "Crazy Again". All of them were at one time, a member of another Southern Rock Band, and some of them are still performing, recording, touring, etc., with another Southern Rock Band. It's like a "revolving door" band of Southern Rock Musicians. So, in this dvd, you'll get several different line-ups. This dvd consists of 19 songs, performed live in concerts, sometime aroung 2002. These concerts were in the U.S.A. & Europe. All these performances were put together fairly well. Also,on the screen, it usually gives the venue, and date of that particular performance. This band is very "Guitar Oriented"!!!

The main consistent thing is that you have Jay Johnson (Son on the legendary Muscle Shoals, Alabama recording engineer, Jimmy Johnson), as lead singer & guitarist on most, but not all of the songs. And then you get the late/great Jakson Spires, who died of a brain anurisum in 2005. Jakson was a founding member of the Southern Rock band "Blackfoot" from Jacksonvile, Florida. He plays the drums on all of the songs. Also, Jakson was the chief song writer for the Southern Rock Allstars (SRA).

The "Allstars" include the following:

Mike Estes - guitarist for Lynyrd Skynryd from 1993-1996, but not included on any of Skynyrd's albums.

Charlie Hargrett - founding member, and guitarist for Blackfoot

Jay Johnson - former guitarist, and former, "sometimes" vocalist, for the Rossington Band

Dave Hlubek - Founding member of Molly Hatchet

Duane Roland - Founding member of Molly Hatchet

Charles Hart - former member of Radio Tokyo

Jimmy Farrar - Former vocalist & songwriter for Molly Hatchet during 1980-82

Greg T. Walker - Founding member & bassist for Blackfoot. Although he is listed on the cover of the dvd, I did not see him performing in this dvd, however, he is well covered in the bonus part. He is still a current member of Blackfoot.

Pete Geddes - former member of The Buster Cherry Band

Jakon Spires - Founding member, song-writer, and drummer for Blackfoot. He died in 2005. His performance on this dvd is outstanding. This dvd is a great tribute to Jakson, a Great Southern Rocker & Musician & Song-writer.

Ace Allen - Former drummer for the Marshall Tucker Band

Mark Ray - former member of Radio Tokyo

Now the song set: (Note: Most of the songs are Blackfoot & Molly Hatchet oriented.)

This is how it appears on the back of the DVD, with the exception of a few rearangements, & additional information, that I added. I'm not sure what the band names in the parenthesis stand for. I guess its the band the song is associated with. These are not necesarily the writers of the songs, because in the credits part of the dvd, at the end of the concert performances, it lists the songs & the writers, and they are different from the ones in this parenthesis, sometimes.

Songs: (Note: All songs are performed by the Southern Rock Allstars.)
1.Tough Situation (Southern Rock Allstars A.K.A. SRA)
2.Morning Dew (Tim Rose)
3.Railroad Man (Blackfoot)
4.Ghost of You (SRA)
5.Run & Hide (Blackfoot)
6.Stump Jumpin'(SRA)
7.Mississippi Queen (Mountain)
8.Beatin' the Odds (Molly Hatchet)
9.Flirtin' With Disaster (Molly Hatchet)
10.Mother (Blackfoot)
11.Trouble's Comin' (SRA)
12.Train of Sorrow (SRA)
13.Wishing Well (Free) (This performance includes Charlie Hargrett, of Blackfoot on rhythm guitar.)
14.Train Train (Blackfoot)
15.Whiskey Man (Molly Hatchet)
16.Bonty Hunter (Molly Hatchet)
17.Fox Chase ( SRA )

These last 2 performances were filmed at the Muscle Shoals, Alabama High School:
18.Rock & Roll All Night (Kiss)
19.Highway Song (Blackfoot) Note: This performance includes background vocals by the Muscle Shoals, Alabama High School Choir.
(20)Credits,listing the songs, and the songwriters.
(21.) A pictorial tribute to the late/great Jakson Spires, with music playing in the background.

Bonus Material: Very Extensive, you get some great commentaries from some of the band members, including a story on the history of the band, also, it includes behind the scences footage from venus across Europe, and the U.S.A., as well as rare offstage interviews. There is a great interview of Jay Johnson, Jakson Spires, and Greg T. Walker. The late/great Jakson Spires is a Native American with Cherokee & Cheyanne Ancestry. Greg T. Walker in a Native American with Creek Indian Ancestry. There are also "bookleg" clips, and the band's humorous behing the scenes "Myth-Adventures", which mainly shows them "goofing-off". Somewhere in here is an informal performance of "Sweet Home Alabama".

Some of these musicians are old, and some have big bellies, and most have long hair, but one thing for sure, they can ROCK "SOUTHERN STYLE". If you like good Southern Rock, then you should enjoy this dvd, especially if you like Blackfoot & Molley Hatchet. I know I love it, and I'm glad I bought a Univeral DVD player so I can watch it, since its region 2. So, in that context, I highly recommend this DVD. Thanks, and enjoy!!!!"
