For once, I agree with the Academy on the nominations (and lack thereof). Jon Hamm was spectacular. This wasn't a contender for best picture, and watching it, you'll understand that. It's a good story about a soft-hearted criminal caught up in bad way of life, grappling with obligations to the "townies", but desperately over the life of crime he's been sucked into. I haven't read the book yet, but judging from the film, I'm thinking this is one of those that is much better left in text--with the exception of the final shoot-out scene. That was pretty sweet.
