Death Row's Finest Rock The House of Blues
Dorrie Wheeler | 11/01/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Tupac Live At The House of Blues is now available in both DVD and CD format. Although the cover art for the CD and DVD are adorned with Tupac's image, the set really needs to pay more homage to Snoop Dogg and the Dogg Pound as they carry the bulk of the concert.

The DVD opens up with a dark screen. Female voices can be heard talking about how fine and sexy Tupac is. Soon the concert begins. Tupac is rocking an all white outfit and he has a strong stage presence. The lighting is good for his performances and he is shown at several camera angles. This is a very good production, not some bootleg like concert. He rocks the stage with his partners The Outlawz. Tupac only performs a handful of songs, and some of the songs are cut short as Pac spits a few verses and launches into another song. He is joined by KC and JoJo from Jodeci for the song "How Do You Want It." Tupac offers some banter with the DJ as he goes back and forth about the track for "How Do You Want It" not being available. The DJ finds the track (whether this was a joke or a true situation isn't clear) and the trio pump "How Do You Want It." Pac does a lot of talking about Biggie A.K.A. "Fat Boy," and the East Coast beef. Towards the end of the DVD he speaks about his alleged sexual romp with Faith Evans. Pac doesn't perform any of his pre-1995 hit songs. It's great to see Pac perform but his performance is so short it's almost like he was the opening act.

The true stars of this DVD are Snoop Dogg, The Dogg Pound and Nate Dogg. Snoop opens up with "Murder Was The Case." They have quite a stage presence and really engage the audience. They rock a long set that includes all of their major hits. At the close of the show Tupac and Snoop perform their hit single "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted."

This is a really great concert DVD. The producers leave in all of the banter and talking and the audience feels like they are actually at the show. The DVD also includes five of Tupac's music videos from his double CD "All Eyez On Me.""
If you've never seen a 2PAC ALIVE in concert BUY THIS DVD!!!

"When I was younger I enjoyed 2pac in movies like Juice, Above the Rim, and Poetic Justice. As a rapper, I bumped his songs from Above the Rim Soundtrack, The Bad Boys sndtk, Me Against The World, and All Eyez On Me. I was 13 when I got into his music, it wasn't until the past few years after his death that I became even more captivated by Mr. Makaveli. I've got all his cds, movies, and bio..from books to clothes... For the longest time, MY BIGGEST REGRET WAS NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE HIM LIVE IN CONCERT. HAVING THIS DVD CHANGES ALL THAT.

The DVD itself runs 118minutes. The video quality, to my surprise was pretty decent. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE RIGHT THERE AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES.

Even though Snoop & the Dogg pound are the headliners of the concert. You can really feel 2pacs greatness from the beginning and in the finale song where he comes back out with Snoop to do 2 of Americas most wanted. 2pac raps/performs 10 classic song songs in total, and while Snooo performs about 14 classic death row time period songs which are all classics like (Murder was the Case, Aint No fun, Whats my name, Gin and Juice, among others)The dvd compensates the ten track performances(which is still plenty of songs for a concert) by providing bonus music videos of 2pacs.

Concert perfomances(which are backed up by the OUTLAWZ) include
-Ambitionz Az a Ridah
-So Many Tears
-Troublesome(Where he disses Nas on his own beat)
- Hit Em up (the Classic diss track toward Bad Boy)
-Tattoo Tears
-All About You
-Never Call U B***H Again
-Freek'n YOU(accappela by Jodeci)
-How do you want it (feat K-ci and JOJO)
and the finale performance of Tupac and Snoop's 2 of Amerikaz most wanted.

bonus features include - Cali. Love remix, 2 live and die in LA, Hit Em up, How do you want it, and I aint mad at you.

PROS: GREAT SONGS PERFORMED BY 2 LEGENDARY ARTISTS, DTS SURROUND SOUND, BONUS MUSIC VIDEOS, REALLY GOOD PICTURE QUALITY

CONS: The only cons I feel have nothing to do with audio/video or the performers themselves, as much as the DJ or mixers who are suppose to play the instrumentals for the rappers are usually late on their beats. You can tell it was frustrating 2pac as he jokes around that if he doesnt get his beat that they're going to start riotting and makes reference to the LA Riots. Also I think the people marketing this dvd should have marketed Snoops performances. They might have made more money.

BOTTOM LINE:
If your a fan of tupac and/or snoop and have never seen them perform live, then buy this dvd. For the price Amazon sells it for, it was worth every penny...I honestly would have paid more. The ending where Suge Knight is shown in his classic red suit, gave me chills, especially when he gives hugs and pounds to Snoop and Pac after the show... If you know about the history/rumors/allegations/controversy of Death Row Records, then you should also feel goosebumps at that moment.

It's hard to imagine that with all these accomplishments and ongoing projects/works still to come, the man passed on at a young age of 25.

Through his music, poetry, movies, and now this DVD... 2pac may be gone, but he will never be 4gotten. Don't forget, Live 2 Tell, written by 2pac will be out in theaters soon... and I know Afeni has more of his music to release... Amazing"

"Wow i've never seen anything as good as this
finally we get to see hit em up live.you gotta love the speeches
by tupac shakur and its even extended for some of them.
the dvd has some tupac music videos because he's not in the whole concert, only for 30 minutes total from begining to end out of 1h:30min plus you get to see his music video's. I think they should have switched pac's videos with his other live appearances like pain live, i ain't mad at cha live/snl stuff.
the DVD features snoop dogg and the Dog Pound Gangstas
and never seen before camera shots from different angles of the concert and great quality too.
ps Enjoy

"anybody who grew up in the death row era and lived with their music from the mid nineties, you have to get this DVD!

It should be part of any westcoast rap, death row, pac, snoop, dogg pound fan DVD collection.

Dont sleep on this! It's worth the money big time!

Just pop it in your DVD player on a big screen TV, while having friends over and party! Worked for us, we had a blast.... so bang this, get your drink on, and have fun with this classic footage of westcoast's peak in rap!"
