"Wolf Video has released a collection of short films titled The Ultimate Lesbian Short Film Festival. Whether you are gay or straight, these are interesting short films worth checking out. The DVD includes 10 short films which vary in length but all are under the twenty minute mark. The topics vary. The DVD opens with the short film "Blow," in which a teenage girl comes out to her friend. The DVD also addresses the little talked about subject of abuse in same sex relationships. The remarkable film Dani & Alice deals with the final hours in a lesbian relationship. A seemingly upper class woman verbally and physically abuses her girlfriend who seems like she is a girl from the hood.
Another really good short on the DVD is Half Laughing. A very butch lesbian comes home for a family funeral. She confronts her mother about her poor attitude and the mother exclaims that she hates that she is gay. The mother hates the way that she is. The acting in this film is phenomenal. Another good film is Saint Henry in which a out of control woman robs a man in the streets with her best pal and then decides to search for her father. After the street robbery, her and her friend hide out in a church, thus the title Saint Henry.
My biggest gripe has to do with the advertising on the DVD box "The statement on the box reads "10 short films full of Intrigue! Fantasy! Suspense! and of course, SEX!" My problem with this statement is it too heavily focuses on the sex aspect of lesbianism whereas the films themself are emotional journeys. There is very little sex or even sexual situations in these films. The one film with a strong sexual theme is a short about an overweight woman who seems depressed and orders a lesbian call girl. These are great short films, so if you a film buff you should check out these shorts.
This is not the ultimate short lesbian film...whatever

"I was so excited when this movie came out, but I was very dissapointed in it. There were maybe two stories that I liked outof 10 or so. There are not hot sex scenes!! Some of them were long and drawn out! Don't waste your time the title hold's high expectations but don't expect much!"
ANOTHER depressing look at the worst of gay life.

"Along with Go Fish, and a few other rock bottom depictions of how "WE" (speak for yourself) live our lives, this is depressing. The far too typical poor production value across the board applies here. The sex is absolutely uninspiring. But beyond that, it adds one more layer of stereotyping; a view from the gutter. HELLO! Millions of us DON'T live in the gutter. Even a movie that portrays that kind of life can be done well, but apparently too many lesbians don't know how to make those kinds of movies. (thank God Nicole Conn gave it up!!) Buy "Fingersmith" or "Loving Annabelle" or even "Tipping The Velvet", some of the best lesbian movies out there."
Excellent collection of shorts!

"All the shorts in this collection deserve an excellent rating! I've been unimpressed in the past with lesbian shorts collections, but all of these films have great scripts, believable characters, and provocative themes. They were all well-acted, well-directed, and the and cinematography, music, and overall production value were excellent. Lesbian filmmaking has come a long way in the past ten years.
The protagonists range in age from childhood to middle-age, and each story offers a different perspective of lesbian life--in some shorts, the characters' sexual orientation is a minor point, while in others it's the main focus of the plot. However, all the films give a varied point of view and none of them are your usual cliched, cheesy, or stereotypical representations of lesbians. All the characters breathe life as real, complex, and fully dimensional beings. It's a worth-while collection for any film enthusiast!"
