VeggieTales: Lord of the Beans (2005) is a cute kids’ movie with the theme of how to use your gifts – to help others, rather than yourself. Obviously the plot is a parrot of the movie The Lord of the Rings, except the talisman isn’t a ring, but a special bean. Maybe all the characters don’t need translating, but some did for me. Billboy Baggypants (Bilbo Baggins), Toto Baggypants (Frodo Baggins), Randolf (Gandalf), Leg-O-Lamb (Legolas), Grumpy (Gimli), Ahem (Gollum/Sméagol), Scaryman (Saruman), Ear-A-Corn (Aragon), and the evil Sporks (Orks). Clever. The music is reminiscent of the original LotR score, but apparently not close enough to cause legal worries. The theme is handled quiet well. There is a longish, four-minute introduction and a two-minute summary before the credits, although the entire movie is just seconds over fifty-two minutes. It was clever, well done, and not at all preachy.

Funny Movie Whether You Like Lord Of The Rings Or Not

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This Veggie Tales movie is loosely based upon the first book of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy (Fellowship Of The Ring). In it are many funny take-offs of the names from the book and even better extremely funny scenes lampooning parts of the recent Peter Jackson movie. Really a great little video."
