Waketrix True to the Movement Review by Thomas Dembie. Rating: 4.5 / 5 — Narrated by Darin Shapiro, with trick tips by one of the best wakeboard coaches in the world, Mike Ferraro, Waketrix is a great instructional tool. The DVD is definitely focused to... more »wards beginner and intermediate riders, as the details of more complicated tricks are shown, but not narrated or discussed. The list of pro riders performing is quite impressive: Danny Harf, Dallas Friday, Chad Sharpe, Darin Shapiro, Josh Sanders and Daniel Watkins.
Since this video is an instructional, I thought the best way to test it out would be to watch certain tricks that I am working on and see how I progressed on the water. Working on my spins and basic inverts, I learnt quite a bit of what I was doing wrong. Watching the tricks, listening to the narration AND listening to Mike Ferraro covers all the bases, giving you a great base to work from. If you ever have the opportunity to tape yourself, comparing what you do on the water to what the pros do in the video would be a great combo - especially for riders that don't have any fellow boarders with coaching experience.
This is a great video to ensure that you have the basics down correctly. If you don't have the right basics, you'll never be able to progress. For example, when I attended the Wakeboard Camp, I spent a couple of days working on simple wake-to-wake jumps - eliminating some of my bad habits. Without this basic training, I doubt I'd be able to perform the tricks I can.
In my opinion, it's better to watch a few tricks, maybe just one, and then take what you've learnt on the water.
Overall, this is a great DVD - more so for beginner and intermediate riders. I also found a little humour (not sure if I should) in that there are quite a few little clips of the local wildlife. Not sure why, but maybe it was done to break up the monotony of showing riders performing tricks.« less
