Based on a true story, I'm not much of a fan of foreign films but this PBS mini-series was top notch and the ending is sad and bittersweet and you will see what I mean.

2014 production based on the true life story of Malcolm Webster (currently imprisoned for life at her majesty's pleasure.) Reece Shearsmith, an actor who I find excels in everything I've seen him in (mostly dark comedy), knock's the portrayal of this mild-mannered, sociopathic nurse out of the park. Truly mortifying. This miniseries primarily concerns the three different women he targeted, although authorities think he may have earlier killed off a few children too.

The manipulation Webster employs here is cold and surgical. And the type of women he chooses are kind hearted and trusting in nature. Reece Shearsmith describes Webster as a "horrible, petulant little boy who even now believes he has been wronged. His entire life has always been poor Malcolm, poor Malcolm, with no thought for the terrible crimes and the victims that he has left in his wake." Right in line with the behavior of a sociopath.

Sociopaths also tend to be extroverted, charming folk to be around. And evidently, Webster was in actuality really like this. So, the way the script portrays Webster rather sort of mars the show's credibility. Here he is unlikeable and introverted. Small potatoes though as the rest of this production is spot on. And, no doubt, your visceral cavity will feel like an icebox afterwards. Currently available for streaming on Prime too.
