Biography: A star of one-reel action melodramas in the early 1910s, tough-looking Harry Van Meter menaced Marie Walcamp in perhaps her best serial, The Lion's Claw (1918). In reality, the title beast proved more formidable than Van Meter and Walcamp would proudly display the scars from their encounter for the rest of her life. Becoming a popular "Boss Heavy" in Westerns of the 1920s, Van Meter was especially nasty as the greedy capitalist buying up the surrounding ranches in Bob Custer's The Texas Bearcat (1925).
Harry Van Meter was the brother of silent screen actor Joseph Van Meter (1876-1961). ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide
