Biography: On stage from 1920, Welsh actor Naunton Wayne made his film bow in 1931. Wayne was catapulted to worldwide fame in 1937, when he and Basil Radford were teamed as cricket-happy British tourists Charters and Caldicott (Wayne was Caldicott) in Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes. The two actors would continue to essay these roles, or reasonable facsimiles, in such films as Night Train (1939), Crook's Tour (1941) and Dead of Night (1948). |
