Biography: Though a film and theater professor at Sarah Lawrence for many years, Wilford Leach only participated in the making of two films. The first, The Wedding Party (1969) he wrote, co-produced and directed in conjunction with two Sarah Lawrence students, Brian de Palma and Cynthia Munroe. A lively comedy, the film contained Robert De Niro and Jill Clayburgh in their feature-film debuts. Leach made his last film The Pirates of Penzance in 1983 and based it on his 1980 directorial debut on Broadway. During the '70s, Leach was the artistic director of New York' La Mama experimental theater company and also often directed works for Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival and Public Theater. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
