I don't understand how anyone can call this movie lame or stupid ... if you know M.Night movies (Signs, Girl In The Water, The Happening) YOU know it's gonna have some weirdness and freakiness to it and a wee bit of quirky humor. This is THE quintessential M. Night movie. And he presents the perfect alien; scary, not afraid of humans, and the suspense if terrifying. As for being preachy... no, it's not... it's about a disheartened character finding himself after he's lost his faith .. whether that faith is in God, in mankind or himself. The message is clear.

This is one of my family's favorite movies. It has some comic moments and a well designed plot that leaves you thinking about how all things have a reason that will in the end become clear. I still think of the main idea in this movie years afterward.

Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix are great.

This is one of my favorite movies! It's really a movie with a message and some people "get it" while others don't. This is a movie about faith or the lack of faith and that some people must see "signs" in order to believe in things they can't see (like God).

This movie has some "tense" moments, but never really turns into anything. In the end you have a not-so-scary alien movie that gets really preachy in the middle and the end.
I agree... I would have been out there with my water gun having a ball.

I have to agree with the other review, it is a horrible movie and not just because of Mel Gibson stinking it up, the writing is just plain cheesy!

This movie was suspenseful, but the end resolved the fear, so you leave with an overall moral of the story instead of feeling haunted. Don't go into this thinking you are going to see a horror film. It's a thriller--a pretty good one.

One of the stupidest big $$$ horror/sci-fi ever made. Seeing anything more in this movie takes a lot of imagination. It would be hard to be afraid of these aliens. Kids would of had a blast hunting them down with pump-up water guns. If you want M. Night Shyamalan watch The Sixth Sense. Mel Gibson? Braveheart, Payback, and Ransom. Look at the large amount of "total copies" available for trade....enough said.
