Bushido: The Cruel Code of the Samurai 1963, B & W, Japanese with English subtitles.

This is a sad history of a samurai family serving their Lord. They sacrifice and die for their Lord because loyalty means everything.
The movie is well done but will make you mad. The Samurai on the cover and his family were victims of pure evil by the Lord.
The history goes thru several generations of ill treatment of this loyal family.

CHER - The Farewell Tour

I would love to go to a Cher concert but the next best thing is one of her concert DVD’s. Cher - The Farewell Tour is one of her best. She’s in great shape and wears beautiful costumes surrounded by backup dancers. This is a favorite DVD I have watched many times. You can also see many of Cher’s TV performances on her YouTube channel.

Stephen King fans can tell you the made for TV movie is not as good as the book. Not too many movies are ever as good as the book. There is a scene in the movie that is is just as chilling and just as scary as in the book. When the grown-up Bevie visits her childhood home, very scary! Worth watching, good story!

The Story of Chikamatsu
a.k.a. The Crucified Lovers

1954 B&W Japanese
Directed by Kenji Mizoguchi
Chikamatsu is a pen name for Sugimori Nobumori who made plays for the Bunraku puppet theater and Kabuki theater.

Kenji Mizoguchi is one of my favorite Japanese directors. Most of his stories are designed to show the struggles of women in Japanese society.
In the beginning of the film, workers are busy making calendars in the form of scrolls. The scroll maker has a contract to supply the Shogunate with calendars. The wife of the scroll maker secretly tries to pay her brothers debts so he does not go to jail. The scroll maker does not like lending money. One of the maids is trying to avoid the advances of the scroll maker. After witnessing the wife of a Samurai and her lover, paraded down the street to their execution, the maids in the scroll makers house are upset the wife gets death but an adulterous husband gets no punishment. I will leave the rest of the details for the viewer to experience.

The Story of Qiu Ju
The Story of Qiu Ju (2006)
Actors: Li Gong, Peiqi Liu, Liuchun Yang
Release Year: 2006
Date: 11/18/2019 3:49 ET

The Story of Qui Ju is about a woman wanting justice but not really justice.
She wants the law to force an apology from the wrongdoer.
Qui Ju is pregnant and tirelessly travels far to file complaints. She walks and rides in rickety carts and hitches a ride to get to her destination and back home to her village. Her husband and everyone else want her to quit but she keeps going.
She really wants that apology. It’s a good movie and really illustrates how even though someone has wronged us we cannot always get the other person to change their ways.
