DVD Synopsis

Sorority sisters are frighteningly plucked off one by one in this low-budget horror film by Mark Rosman. Katherine (Kathryn McNeil) is a serious-minded, thinking woman whose intelligence is about to stand her in good stead when events turn dark and murderous. She and the more evil-minded Vicki (Eileen Davidson), along with five other women, cannot believe it when their housemother forbids them to throw a big party on June 19th. As a response, the sorority women drown her in the swimming pool. One would think another date might have been negotiated. What they do not know is that the 19th marks the birthday of a very unusual offspring, born to the housemother 20 years earlier in an experimental procedure that left much to be desired. Apparently this son does not appreciate the murder of his mother, and mayhem begins from that point onward, and onward, and onward until the final climactic moment arrives at last. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

At the height of the '80s slasher genre came the terror-filled coed horror movie The House on Sorority Row. Elite Entertainment has done a very good job on this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Since the source materials are of a low-budget nature, it's surprising to find this image to be very clean and free of dirt and grain that usually mar most low-budget transfers. Aside of a little edge enhancement and some muted colors, this is a very nice-looking picture. The audio is presented in what appears to be Dolby Digital Mono (it's not specified on the package). This soundtrack is generally filtered through only the center speaker without the use of any high range surround sounds. Aside of a little distortion in some of the dialogue, this audio track is mostly crisp and clean. No subtitles are included on this disc. The only extra feature available on this disc is a theatrical trailer for the film presented in 1.33:1 full frame. Fans will be glad to see this horror classic in its original widescreen format, but the supplements will leave much to be desired. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
