Synopsis

Titan A.E. combines cel and CG imagery in this science fiction saga. In 3028, after the Earth is destroyed by an invading alien race, a tiny number of surviving humans roam the universe in ragtag spaceships, trying to find each other and maintain some sense of community. Shortly before the final destruction of the planet, Cale (voice of Matt Damon) was given a map that would guide him to a space station called Titan, secretly constructed as a last hope in the event of alien Armageddon. Cale sets out in search of Titan and the fabled Ice Planet with the help of his friend Korso (voice of Bill Pullman), the beautiful Akima (voice of Drew Barrymore), and a crew of friendly aliens. Titan A.E. was directed by noted animators Don Bluth and Gary Goldman and scripted by Ben Edlund, creator of the comic book series -The Tick. Other members of the voice cast include Nathan Lane, Janeane Garofalo, John Leguizamo, and Tone Loc. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review

Though it did poorly at the box office, Fox's underappreciated, animated science fiction film Titan A.E. is in its element on this deluxe DVD, which features a widescreen, anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Surround Audio, and a host of extras. The disc's best bonuses -- which include a commentary by directors Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, deleted scenes, and a "making of" featurette -- showcase the talent, imagination, and technology that went into making the film appealing to sci-fi diehards and casual fans alike. Other extras, such as the music video for Lit's "Over My Head," the still gallery, trailers, and a DVD-ROM game link, aren't essential to enjoying the film but are still entertaining in their own right. With any luck, this disc will give Titan A.E. the second chance it deserves with science fiction and animation fans. ~ Heather Phares, All Movie Guide

I remember coming out of the theater in a daze--I felt like I'd just seen Star Wars for the first time! Action, wit, character development, and a great soundtrack, combined with top-notch visuals make this an experience to repeat. Definitely recommended--either for kids, or to feel like a kid again.
