DVD Synopsis

Like George Lucas' American Graffiti, Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused is an affectionate look at the youth culture of a bygone era. While Lucas took aim at the conservative 1950's, Linklater jumps ahead a generation to the bicentennial year of 1976 to celebrate the joys of beer blasts, pot smoking and Frampton Comes Alive. Set on the last day of the academic year, the film follows the random activities of a sprawling group of Texas high schoolers as they celebrate the arrival of summer, their paths variously intersecting at a freshmen hazing, a local pool parlor and finally at a keg party. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Richard Linklater's 1970s high school opus Dazed and Confused shares a lot with George Lucas' 1960s American Graffiti. Both take place over one night in the lives of small-town high school students; both feature casts that were unknown at the time and went on to be the sought-after actors of their generations; both have great time-period soundtracks; and both were released by Universal. Unfortunately, Universal did not give =Dazed and Confused the same "collector's edition" treatment it lavished on =American Graffiti. The 1.85:1 non-anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital transfer are good, but the supplements are severely lacking. In fact, an Internet campaign began in an effort to get a special edition of the title released. The DVD may lack extras, but it does allow a second chance to catch Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Adam Goldberg, Matthew McConaughey, and Parker Posey before their more recognized appearances in bigger films. Dazed and Confused is worth a rental on DVD, but fans should wait a little longer to see if Universal decides to revisit the title in the future. ~ Oliver Thornton, All Movie Guide

Silly, sometimes funny teen movie about the 1970's and high school experiences in Texas. You will recognize many actors in this movie, including Ben Affleck, who plays a bully, and Parker Posey, who plays a cheerleader with a nasty streak. Anyone who remembers 1976 will get a kick out of the music, the cars and the fashions.
