DVD Synopsis
After making his directorial debut with the acclaimed made-for-cable movie Gia, writer Michael Cristofer helmed his first big-screen offering with this drama. When eight men and women in their early-to-mid-20s head out for a night on the town, hopping from one Los Angeles club to the next, not everything goes as planned as they discover the joys and perils of dating at the end of the 20th Century. Body Shots shifts among the perspectives of its eight characters, played by Sean Patrick Flanery, Ron Livingston, Jerry O'Connell, Amanda Peet, Emily Procter, Tara Reid, Brad Rowe, and Sybil Temchen. The film had a number of titles during production, including The Night Before and Jello Shots, the latter of which was reportedly axed to avoid legal problems with the company that makes the gelatin dessert product. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
Sex and youth run rampart in Body Shots, the dramatic story about the consequences of combining alcohol and sex in the 1990s. New Line has done a very nice job on this 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Coming close to reference quality, all aspects of the picture are near-perfect including the colors, black levels, and fleshtones. Edge enhancement is not spotted during the feature, and all digital artifacting and shimmer are kept to the bare minimum. A 1.33:1 standard version of the film is also included on this disc. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and is quite directional, especially during the nightclub or dance scenes. While there are a few spots of distortion, overall this track is mixed evenly, with surround sound use maximized. Also included on this disc are English subtitles. The only extra features on =Body Shots is a theatrical trailer as well as some cast and crew information. While fans of this film may enjoy the feature (with a shot of tequila, of course), the extra features will end up leaving them as dry as a gin and tonic. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
