DVD Synopsis
The title character, a nasty landlord (Elliott Gould), is killed in a car accident and descends into hell. There he meets the Devil (Bill Cosby), who promises him his life back if he can find three people willing to sell their souls in three months. ~ John Bush, All Movie Guide
Comedian Bill Cosby makes an unlikely devil in the family-orientated movie The Devil and Max Devlin. Brought to DVD by Anchor Bay, this 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer looks only slightly passable. There are many instances of grain and dirt running through the image, and the colors tend to appear slightly muted and soft. Otherwise, edge enhancement and shimmer are non-present with the black levels all sufficiently dark and solid. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono and lacks any true depth or fidelity. The bulk of this soundtrack comes from only the center speaker with only a few sound effects trailing from the side front speakers. All aspects of the dialogue, effects, and music are clear of most distortion and hiss. No subtitles are available on this disc. Fans looking for any insight into this film will be sorely disappointed; there isn't a single solitary extra feature to be found on this edition of =The Devil and Max Devlin. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
