DVD Synopsis

If you could talk to the child that you used to be, what advice would you give him? That question forms the basis of this comic fantasy. Forty-year-old Russ Duritz (Bruce Willis) is a wealthy and powerful "image consultant" who has made a career out of telling people how to present themselves. But while he's a success in business, he's a failure in life; he's vain, mean-spirited, and hasn't been able to hold onto a marriage (or even a pet dog). One day, Russ is startled to meet Rusty (Spencer Breslin), a stocky kid whom he soon realizes is himself at the age of eight, having passed through a wrinkle in time. Young Rusty doesn't seem much happier than the grown-up Russ, so the older man takes his younger self under his wing and tries to teach him how to avoid the mistakes he's made, while Rusty encourages Russ to be a more caring human being. Along the way, Russ and Rusty become friends, and realize how much they can learn from each other. Disney's The Kid also stars Jean Smart as one of Russ' clients, Lily Tomlin as his assistant, and Daniel Von Bargen as his father. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Jon Turteltaub's fantasy-comedy The Kid comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English, Spanish, and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. The English soundtrack is closed-captioned and Spanish subtitles are accessible. The entertaining supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by the director and the child actor Spencer Breslin, a behind-the-scenes documentary concerning how Breslin got the part and his work on the film, a series of interviews with Turteltaub, and the theatrical trailer. This is an excellent package for this hit film. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

I have watched this movie a few years back. I think this is a wonderful, fanciful feel good movie. I personally enjoyed seeing Bruce Willis in this genre. It is fanciful!! I will give it that, but is a movie about finding the missing pieces from childhood and correcting them.

I love Bruce Willis in many of his movies, this is not his best showcase. This is a great movie with many laughs and some fun insites. The banter is whitty and the pace of the movie unrushed. My negitive's are the sloppy segways, reaction shots of Mr Willis and while the movie is a comedy, Mr. Willis is more the stright man then the comedy lead. I'm not a fan of the child actor but he does a good enough job. I felt a little confused as to who was going to be the romantiac interest and the ending needed a make over. Overall this is a good movie and worth a credit to see.
