DVD Synopsis

Johnny Depp was nominated for a Golden Globe for his astonishing performance in Benny & Joon, though the entire cast is equally impressive. Benny (Aidan Quinn) runs a small car repair shop. He must also take care of his mentally ill sister Juniper, better known as Joon (Mary Stuart Masterson). After losing a bet, Benny is forced to bring another eccentric into his house: Sam (Johnny Depp), the cousin of a friend. Not inclined to conversation, Sam expresses himself by performing Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton routines (and brilliantly!) Not surprisingly, he immediately hits it off with Joon. As Sam and Joon fall deeper in love, Benny for the first time in life experiences the pangs of jealousy. Jeremiah Chechik's quirky romantic comedy Benny & Joon comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while a Spanish soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible, and the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by those involved with the production, deleted scenes, a music video, and the original theatrical trailer. With the exception of the bus scene, which is disturbing...this movie is fantastically delightful! The characters are enjoyable. Plenty of humor. Romance...typical and not so. And if you like Depp even a little bit...delicious! Aidan is pretty sweet, too! Most of the soundtrack is wonderful, too...the upbeat stuff. My friends and I have played this style of poker and its a kick! (chocolate is always an acceptable substitute!) One of my all time favs!

Excellent movie. One of those feel good movies that manages to slide in safely just between corny and mushy. The characters are lovable, and they'll refresh your sense of true love. I recommend this movie, especially if you are a fan of 'Harold and Maude'.
