Hell Comes to Frogtown is considered one of the great midnight films by B-movie connoisseurs. Featuring the talents of
Roddy Piper and
Sandahl Bergman, Anchor Bay has put some decent time and work into this small yet fun title. Presented for the first time anamorphically in 1.85:1 widescreen, =Hell Comes to Frogtown looks about as good as it's probably ever going to get. Though the image was often grainy, the transfer retains a nice look that should surprise fans of the film. Featuring bold colors and dark blacks, =Hell Comes to Frogtown is leaps and bounds above the VHS copies floating around in video stores. Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround and its quality is very middle of the road. The track is nothing spectacular, but even with its imperfections, the dialogue, music, and effects are always clear and concise.
=Hell Comes to Frogtown also features two small but fun supplemental features. The first is a commentary track by director
Donald G. Jackson and writer
Randall Frakes. For fans of the movie, this will be an indispensable track filled with information and behind-the-scenes stories. Both men are very chatty and genuinely enjoy the movie they've created. The second feature is a theatrical trailer that definitely doesn't take itself too seriously. Anchor Bay has done a wonderful job on this disc and should be commended for putting forth so much effort on such a low-budget title. ~ Patrick Naugle, All Movie Guide
