Editorial Review of DVD

This generous three-disc set from 20th Century Fox collects all 12 episodes from the first season of Joss Whedon's cult favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Each episode is presented with a standard full-frame transfer that preserves its original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are accessible. The episodes included in this collection are "Welcome to the Hellmouth"/"The Harvest" (the two-hour pilot that was separated into two different one-hour episodes for rebroadcast), "Witch," "Teacher's Pet," "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date," "The Pack," "Angel," "I Robot, You Jane," "The Puppet Show," "Nightmares," "Out of Mind, Out of Sight," and "Prophecy Girl." The excellent supplemental materials include interviews with Whedon and actor David Boreanaz (Angel), Buffy television advertisements, a photo gallery, cast biographies, and a commentary track from Whedon during "Welcome to the Hellmouth," as well as that episode's script. This is an outstanding disc that should earn Buffy a legion of new fans while satisfying the hardcore enthusiasts. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

I actually was late in getting into this series. I had never watched a show of Buffy until after it had ended its run on TV. I just could not imagine how a show called "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" could possibly be any good plus I hated the movie that preceded. I could not have been more wrong. Highly recommend this series.
This is the weakest season out of the entire Buffy series. Season 1 is still fun to watch but lacks the depth that is added to future seasons. Luckily, the season 2 that follows is one of the best seasons of the series. Season 1 is a shorter season than the ones that follow as well. Even with this weaker season...it is still contains the witty banter that exists throughout the series and is highly enjoyable...as well as an introduction of the main characters. One of the things that made this show great was getting to watch the evolution of each character through the later seasons. Buffy, Willow, Xander each become more grown up and powerful in their own ways as each season passes. Each imperfect but each selfless in their quest to fight the big baddies.

Love, Love, Love this show! I've watched all 7 seasons at least 10 times. The first 2 seasons are campy and fun, it starts to get more serious (and believable, as much as vampires can be.) by the third season. My favorite seasons are 3,5-7. I'm glad I own this whole series, because whenever I get a Buffy craving, (every other month or so) I can just pop one in.
