One of the greatest and most distinctive figures in American country music, Johnny Cash was also a major star in Europe, and in 1993 Cash made a stop in Dublin, Ireland, during a tour of the United Kingdom. Johnny Cash was a year away from releasing American Recordings, the bold acoustic album which helped to revitalize his career, when he appeared in Dublin, Ireland, for a concert recorded for television in 1993. Johnny Cash: Johnny Cash in Ireland -- 1993 marks the first North American appearance of this material; the concert has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the quality is fine, not exceptional but well shot and with no noticeable flaws. The audio has been mastered in three formats -- uncompressed PCM stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS 5.1. The sound is excellent and sounds both bright and roomy in both the stereo and surround mixes. The songs are performed in English, with no subtitles or multiple language option included. No bonus materials have been included, but this is a notch or two above the average for the Johnny Cash material that's been flooding the market since his death, and it captures the Man in Black in solid form. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
