DVD Synopsis

Bored with their cushy suburban existence, yuppie David (Albert Brooks) talks his wife Linda (Julie Hagerty) into selling everything they own and hitting the road to "see America." As a starting-over gesture, David and Linda are romantically remarried in Las Vegas -- which, ironically, proves to be the beginning of the end of their idyll. In short order, Linda loses their life's savings, the couple nearly self-destructs at Hoover Dam, they take blue-collar jobs in a go-nowhere Arizona town, and....Well, if you know your Albert Brooks, be prepared for a steady stream of manic social satire. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Editorial Review of DVD

Albert Brooks' hysterical comedy about yuppie life, Lost in America, comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer, as well as cast and crew profiles. This is a basic disc from Warner Bros., but it is great to have such a funny film available in a widescreen transfer for such a reasonable price. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

This is NOT a movie for those seroius about changing their lives and leaving the corporate world for a life as Fulltime RVers. As someone who has done this, I can say this movie made a mockery of the entire process, poking fun at a serious life-changing decision, and was completely inacurrate in more ways than I can mention. The film must have been written and directed by someone who had never even been RVing, as it was so irreverant and ridiculous in nature. The acting was awful. Albert Brooks and Julie Hagerty spent their entire time on screen either yelling at each other in such shrill tones that I had to mute the volume, or spoke so soft and meekly that I wondered how they could stand upright with such a lack of spine. Their characters were completely unbelievable, both in terms of the writing and their acting. I literally got so fed up with this movie that I stopped it mid-way and put the DVD aside. After months of seeing it gathering dust on my shelf I finally decided to watch it to the end - just to say I finished it. It was no better than I remembered and the ending was predictible and unsatisfying. Do yourself a favor and watch Robin Williams in the 2006 movie 'RV' instead. It's equally unrealistic, but more entertaining - which is saying a LOT.
