DVD Synopsis

Sylvester Stallone returns to the director's chair for Rocky Balboa, the fifth sequel to the film that made him a superstar 30 years before. The movie begins with Rocky (Stallone) still mourning the death of his loyal and beloved wife, Adrian, who died three years previously after losing a battle against cancer. Rocky owns an Italian restaurant and spends his days living in his working-class Philadelphia neighborhood, visiting with his customers, and telling stories about his past. His grown son has a job as a business professional, but the relationship between the two is strained. Rocky's growing dissatisfaction leads him to attempt to purge the feelings of frustration and loss by applying for a boxing license. When the current heavyweight champion, Mason "The Line" Dixon (Antonio Tarver), needs to rehabilitate his image as a pretty boy who has never shown any real heart in the ring, his manager offers Rocky an exhibition match. This comeback allows Rocky to get his own life back on track, while also offering him the opportunity to help those around him redeem themselves and once again be a symbol of hope for the common man. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

The sixth installment of the "Rocky" series, and surprisingly, one of the most interesting.

Rocky Balboa (Stallone) is now 60, and the proud owner of a decent restaurant named after his beloved late wife, Adrian. Back in the old neighborhood of Philly, Rocky reminisces about the old times, still hangs out with his brother-in-law, Paulie (Burt Young), tries to connect with his estranged son (Milo Ventimiglia) and reconnects with a young woman he once tried to advise years ago (Geraldine Hughes).

Meanwhile, a computer fight between a then Italian Stallion and the newest boxing sensation Mason "The Line" Dixon (Antonio Tarver), stirred much buzz as they said Rocky would be victorious. Of course, the promoters and executives want this to really happen, not even caring that Rocko is, well old. Much money is to be made in their eyes. But Rocky is no slouch, and has much fight left.

I really enjoyed this one. It's very well-written and pays a nice homage to the first film. It was also very interesting to see Rocky in his older years. And Sly, does a rather decent acting job here, mirroring his performance the first time 'round. And at 60, Sly is still in shape and solid...God bless him.

A good time and a very-good movie.
