DVD Synopsis

How far will a man go to win the woman he loves? That's the devilish question behind this satirical romantic comedy. Elliot Richards (Brendan Fraser), a low-level white-collar worker, has fallen in love with his co-worker Allison (Frances O'Connor), who barely knows he exists. Desperate to win her love, sad sack Elliot is approached by the Devil (Elizabeth Hurley), who offers him seven wishes in exchange for his soul. Elliot accepts, but none of his wishes works out quite the way that he had hoped; after transforming himself into a South American tycoon, a champion NBA basketball player, a famous author, the most sensitive man in the world, and even the president of the United States, Elliot discovers that the Devil has added a crucial loophole each time, and for all his troubles, Allison still isn't interested in him. Directed by Harold Ramis, Bedazzled was adapted from the 1968 cult movie of the same name written by and starring Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Harold Ramis' remake, Bedazzled comes to DVD in this handsome package from 20th Century Fox. The disc contains a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a pair of commentary tracks, one featuring the director, the second featuring star Elizabeth Hurley and producer Trevor Albert. A photo gallery, a look at the costume design, and a making-of featurette round out this THX certified disc that should please both fans of the film and DVD enthusiasts with its quality picture and sound, as well as its entertaining extras. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

A subpar remake of the Dudley Moore version. The original had style and a silliness that this one doesn't quite pull off as well. An average film that will probably collect dust after one viewing (unless you have a thing for Elizabeth Hurley). Brendan Fraser does an adequate job, however, elizabeth hurley could stand to take a few more acting lessons. In the end the movie ends up feeling like a watered down version when compared to the original. An okay movie... just not a great one.

Really one of my all-time favorite comedies. Brendan does an amazing job taking on multiple "characters" complete with languages. Sexy, smart, and fun to watch.

Very funny movie, I especially loved the little "mean jeanie" touch!

Brendan Fraser fans will like this. The guy is just so likeable in all his roles. The bumbling romantic. The guy every mom wants her daughter to bring home. His charm comes through. He is so likeable to us and yet again his co-stars just don't see it. In this film he keeps trying to reinvent himself so that his secret crush will fall for him. What we know from the beginning is we like him just the way he is. A chick flick for sure.
