DVD Synopsis

Industrial Light and Magic special-effects wizard Stefen Fangmeier makes the leap into the director's chair with this coming-of-age fantasy concerning a young boy whose discovery of a mysterious dragon egg leads him on a predestined journey to become a Dragon Rider and defend his peaceful world against an evil king. Based on the best-selling novel by Christopher Paolini, Eragon tells the tale of the titular character (Ed Speleers), a humble farm boy living in the land of Alagaësia, whose life is forever changed when he discovers that he has been chosen to fight the most powerful enemy his world has ever known. Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, and Djimon Hounsou co-star in a film produced by Davis Entertainment and adapted from the novel by screenwriters Peter Buchman, Larry Konner, and Mark Rosenthal. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

What I hate about this movie...is that it stops right in the middle of the story! Completely unsatisfying! They were obviously planning a sequel...but they have taken so long, nobody is interested anymore (well, okay one person; see other reviews). I mean, it's not as if it was The Lord of the Rings, which has decades/millions of dedicated readers!
If they had actually done a complete movie, I would have enjoyed it a lot. As it is I've told people not to even bother with it.

IMHO this movie did not follow the book well at all. It took bits and pieces of the three books and tried to cram them into less than two hours. The results were very disappointing. The visual effects were pretty good but with this one, you should read the books and use your imagination.

The movie follows the book exactly but has no excitement, no heart. The book is wonderful. Read the book skip the movie. Jim

Eragon is one of my all time favorite movies. It has lots of peak moments that keep you on the edge of your seat! The overall story line was absolutely brilliant.
